The British Empire used the Julian calendar until 1752 because they reckoned the Gregorian one was a Catholic Papish (why isn&#039;t it Popish?) plot to impose their ways. People thought silly things back then.</description>

But, yes, jesus, imagine the localisation issues that would have arisen in the 170 years when the Catholic west was running according to a similar but slightly different calendar to the Protestant west. Like the Americans&#039; predilection for MM/DD but much more of a pain in the arse, I&#039;m sure.</description>
